Vera (Baker) Nichols Remembers Robert E. Howard

by Gary Romeo

This newspaper article appeared in the Stephenville, Texas Empire-Tribune on July 29, 1984. (There is an error about Robert E. Howard’s age in the beginning that is later corrected.) The article mentions Robert E. Howard’s sword and knife collection; so, consider this a follow up to my previous article. There is a funny comment about de Camp at the very end.

(This will probably be my only blogpost this week. I’m slightly under the weather. Nothing major. Just can’t concentrate enough to write a complete article. Luckily this was an interesting find!)

  1. Many thanks for this post and the insights provided by the article that otherwise would most likely have gone unknown. I didn’t realize how long REH’s mother was ill, for instance. And his enjoyment of knife throwing in front of friends. and not letting anyone touch his desk (lol). It all helps paint the picture of the man’s tragically short life for those of us who admire his work.

The VP look alike was a worthy chuckle as well.
